So I asked Tabitha to go "behind the design" and share more about the inspiration for Sacred Hour Spas, how we can benefit from more intentional self-care and wellness, and what their upcoming innovative expansion will bring to Cleveland:
Behind The Design: Sacred Hour Wellness Spas
CEO of Sacred Hour Spas Tabitha Baker began her journey in this field almost 30 years ago training for massage and bodywork in New York and Toronto. She moved to Cleveland from the east coast in 2001 and discovered that the inspiring and beautiful spaces in which she wanted to help others didn’t exist – so she decided to create it herself.
For almost 20 years, Tabitha has been able to create sacred spaces and experiences for her guests, and is sincerely privileged to work alongside the dedicated practitioners on her team. She is also humbled by the many long-time and new Sacred Hour guests that come seeking healing and care and that leave refreshed and reinvigorated.
"What inspired you to start your business?"
Space is important to me. I must work in a space that is inspiring and beautiful. I could not find it, so I created it. Sound, lighting, design, it's all crucial to the guest experience.
How can entrepreneurs, especially women, benefit from more intentional self-care and wellness practices?
Intentional self-care is not a luxury, but a strategic practice that directly impacts an entrepreneur's effectiveness, creativity, and ability to succeed. For women in particular, it empowers them to thrive in both business and personal spheres, fostering a more balanced, fulfilling entrepreneurial life.

Rocky River and Lakewood are the perfect homes for us because these neighborhoods align so deeply with the values we hold as a business and the type of experience we want to offer our guests. Having been located in this area for the past 20 years, we've grown to truly appreciate the sense of community, the walkability, and the vibrant energy that both neighborhoods exude.
Coming from the East Coast, I’ve always been drawn to places that offer a balance of nature and urban convenience. Both Rocky River and Lakewood have that unique combination, with easy access to beautiful waterfront views and parks, alongside dynamic local businesses and cultural hubs. The proximity to Lake Erie adds an element of tranquility and serenity that makes it the ideal setting for a wellness-focused space.
Our Lakewood community is also incredibly diverse, which is something we value deeply. They are home to people from all walks of life who appreciate the importance of self-care and wellness. The vibrant mix of residents, young professionals, families, and those who seek a healthy, balanced lifestyle makes these neighborhoods the perfect fit for our spa’s mission to provide a retreat for individuals and groups alike.

It’s incredibly important to have women-led businesses in our community because women bring a unique blend of softness, empathy, and history that deeply enriches the business landscape. Women often lead with a sense of care and community, nurturing relationships and creating environments where people feel seen and heard. This approach fosters a deeper connection between businesses and their customers, making the impact of these businesses feel personal and meaningful.

Thank you so much! We are incredibly excited about this new expansion and the opportunity to bring something truly unique to Cleveland. With this 10,000 square-foot spa, we hope to create a space that goes beyond just relaxation — it's about fostering an environment where people can truly reconnect with themselves, recharge, and feel rejuvenated, whether they’re visiting solo or as part of a larger group.
We aim to create a multi-dimensional wellness experience that caters to everyone — from those looking for individual respite and self-care to corporate teams seeking a wellness circuit that enhances collaboration and reduces stress. This space will be designed with intention to offer a sense of sanctuary where women (and people of all backgrounds) can come together, celebrate themselves, and enjoy meaningful connections. Whether it's a "girls' hang" to unwind or a corporate retreat focused on team building, we want our visitors to feel empowered and uplifted.
Ultimately, we hope to be more than just a spa; we want to be a catalyst for creating a wellness-focused community in Cleveland that supports both personal growth and collective well-being. By offering a variety of wellness services, thoughtful design, and a welcoming atmosphere, we envision this new space as a destination that helps people prioritize their health and happiness in a way they haven’t experienced before.
"What is the most rewarding aspect of being an entrepreneur?"
The most rewarding aspect of being an entrepreneur is witnessing the team come together to deliver a truly beautiful experience for our guests. Seeing everyone collaborate and execute with such passion and dedication is incredibly fulfilling. On the other hand, the most challenging part is maintaining consistency, especially with the long days and sleepless nights that often come with running a business. Staying focused and ensuring everything runs smoothly can be tough, but it's all part of the journey.
"Do you have any role models in your life?"
Yes, I absolutely have role models, and many of them are women who have made remarkable contributions in design, the arts, and wellness. I find inspiration in women who break boundaries and create meaningful change within their fields. In design, I admire those who craft spaces that are not only aesthetically beautiful but also foster connection and well-being. In the arts, I look up to women who use their creativity to challenge norms and express powerful narratives. And in wellness, I respect the women who have dedicated their lives to helping others prioritize self-care, balance, and mental health. These women have paved the way for others, and their passion, dedication, and vision motivate me every day in my own journey.
"How do you relax or unwind at the end of the day?"
My pups, my home, whether here in Lakewood or in the desert in Joshua Tree, California and my husband.
"What advice would you give to someone who is considering becoming an entrepreneur or starting their own business?"
My advice would be simple: Don’t quit. Keep Going. The journey of entrepreneurship is filled with challenges, doubts, and moments when it feels easier to give up. But perseverance is key. Stay focused on your vision, adapt when necessary, and trust in your ability to overcome obstacles. Every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow. Surround yourself with a supportive network, keep pushing forward, and remember why you started in the first place. The road may be tough, but the rewards are worth it when you don’t give up.
