Light & Coastal Bedroom Interior Design Project
This Westlake, Ohio home is full of charm and character, and our client, a busy executive, needed a more relaxing, cozy, and peaceful primary bedroom to serve as a respite from her high-powered career. She also wanted the space to be multi-functional, to include a reading nook and a designated place for morning yoga.
The large bedroom, which featured several windows and an abundance of natural light, wasn't being used to its full potential, and the existing colors and textures felt stark, plain and uninviting. Read on to look behind the scenes at this Light & Coastal Bedroom Interior Design Project:
Here's how we transformed this dark and dull primary bedroom to a more inspiring, light, and cozy space:
Behind The Design
We carefully designed the floor plan to create space for a designated reading area with a large, comfortable chair, side table, and floor lamp, and incorporated a round area rug to tie in all sides of the space's unconventional footprint:
Incorporating light fabrics in shades of white and oatmeal added a soft color palette to the reading nook, while a low profile floor lamp maximized the ceiling slope and coordinated with the marble topped iron side table:
Thoughtful decor and accessories, such as a potted plant, fresh flowers, and a candle helped make the space even more inviting:
The cozy, neutral color palette was carried over to the bedding, which included a pastel blue hue layered into the linens and a plush throw blanket:
Carefully curated artwork, reflecting the client's personal interests, adds more visual appeal and texture to the space:
To add privacy and warmth to the space, custom window treatments in a natural grassweave were added, combining functionality with style:
To tie the space together, a distressed wood bench in a unique curved frame was added at the end of the bed, drawing on the curves of the round, medallion style area rug, which is the perfect size to fit a yoga mat:
Another challenge was concealing closet storage without adding bulky closet doors:
We solved that by adding lush, linen curtains in a pale blue hue to coordinate with the bed linens:
As part of our full service design process, we handled all project management and customer service, including purchasing, tracking, and delivery coordination of all furnishings, allowing this hardworking executive to focus on her priorities like her family and her career, and bringing the project to completion.
And the best part?
Our client loves her new calming, inspiring retreat, and appreciated her design experience throughout our entire process. From her 5-star review:
“I am an extremely busy professional. Without Natalie’s time and attention I would never have arrived at this beautiful place that feels authentic to me. I simply did not have the time, nor did I know “who I was” before the design process. Natalie helped me find myself while working within my schedule with ease. ”
Not only was our full service design process stress-free for our client, but now she gets to enjoy a more relaxing, peaceful, and stress-free space, too.
"This experience is priceless."

Many of our clients are high-achieving professional families who appreciate the value of a more welcoming, family-friendly, and style-infused home, and also an organized, thorough process that allows them to save valuable time and stress throughout the design experience.
